UK building society statement PDF → Excel or CSV
Many building societies, credit unions and older bank systems still produce typewriter-style statements: a fixed-width font, DD/MM/YY dates, descriptions chopped at a set width (sometimes mid-word) and withdrawals shown in brackets. Copy-paste turns these into a mess. CleanStatement reads them by position.
- Runs in your browser: the statement is never uploaded
- Running-balance check flags any row that doesn't add up
- Free for 3 statements a day, no sign-up
Your PDF is converted in this browser tab and never uploaded.
What a UK building society statement looks like
UK building societies and older printed statements statements usually have these columns. The converter maps them to Date, Description, Money out, Money in, Amount and Balance.
- Date (DD/MM/YY)
- Description (cut at a fixed width, often mid-word, continuing on the next line)
- Amount (debits in parentheses, e.g. (45.00))
- Balance
What CleanStatement handles for you
- Words broken across lines are joined back together.
- Amounts in brackets are treated as money out.
- Fixed-width columns are read by position, so uneven spacing does not shift values.
- Rows are reconciled against the balance column.
Every release is tested against a synthetic UK building society-style statement that copies this layout with made-up data. Real statements vary by account type and year. If yours doesn't convert cleanly, Pro users get priority fixes for their layout.

UK building society statement conversion FAQ
Can I scan paper statements?
Yes. Scanned pages go through on-device OCR (beta). The balance check is especially useful here: any row it flags is worth a second look.
Which societies does this cover?
It is not tied to one institution. It reads the layout, so any fixed-width statement with a date, description, amount and balance should work. CleanStatement is not affiliated with any bank or building society.
Is my statement uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and converted inside your browser. Only the converter code (and, for scanned pages, the OCR engine) is downloaded to your device. Your document is never sent to us.
What does the free plan include?
3 statements per day, up to 5 pages each, with Excel and CSV export and the balance check. Pro ($9/month or $59/year) removes the limits, adds batch conversion into one merged sheet and Chinese OCR.
Converting statements every month?
Pro is $9/month or $59/year: unlimited statements and pages, batch conversion into one merged sheet, and Chinese OCR for scanned statements.
