1099-B PDF → CSV, without uploading it Beta
A consolidated 1099 carries your name, account number and every trade you made. TaxForms reads it inside your browser and turns the sales into a Form 8949 CSV (with wash-sale and market-discount adjustments as codes W and D), a TXF file for TurboTax Desktop and an Excel workbook, then checks each box against the totals your broker printed.
- Read in your browser: the file is never uploaded
- Each Form 8949 box is checked against the totals printed on the form
- Free preview and box totals check, no sign-up
Files are read in this browser tab and never uploaded.
What TaxForms reads on a 1099-B
- Short-term and long-term sections for boxes A, B, D and E, plus "undetermined term" sections (box B or E, decided from the dates where they're shown).
- Rows with the description on the same line or on a security line above the lots; "VARIOUS" acquisition dates; missing basis shown as blank, dashes or "Missing"; amounts with $ signs, minus signs or parentheses; wash sale amounts with a W code.
- Section totals and the summary table on the first page. Every box is compared with them to the cent, including the number of rows when the form prints it.
Getting the sales into your tax software
- TurboTax Desktop imports TXF files of stock sales. TaxForms writes each lot under the TXF code for its box, with the wash sale amount where there is one. Lots with no basis are left out of the TXF and listed so you can enter them yourself.
- TurboTax Online doesn't take a CSV for stock sales. Its help pages suggest entering sales-section totals per box instead, and the box totals panel gives you exactly those numbers.
- Other software: the Form 8949 CSV and Excel workbook have one row per sale with the Form 8949 columns (a) to (h).
FAQ
Is my 1099-B uploaded?
No. The PDF is read inside your browser tab. Nothing about your account or trades is sent to us.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Pages without a text layer are run through OCR on your device, but OCR can misread digits. The box totals check will flag most misreads; treat scanned results with extra care.
Which brokers are supported?
TaxForms reads column headings, box headings and total lines rather than a fixed list of brokers. It's in beta and tested on synthetic statements modelled on common substitute-statement layouts. Real statements vary, which is why every result is checked against the form's own totals.
What does the free version include?
A full preview of every row and the complete box totals check. Downloads include the first 10 rows; a TaxForms pass or CleanStatement Pro unlocks all rows.
What does the free version include?
Every row in the preview and the full box totals check, free. Downloads include the first 10 rows of each file. A TaxForms pass ($12 once, valid until October 15, 2027) or CleanStatement Pro unlocks every row.
Is this tax advice?
TaxForms is a file-conversion and arithmetic-check tool. It is not tax advice, doesn't calculate cost basis, and doesn't prepare or file your return. Check every figure against your original forms, and ask a tax professional if you're unsure how something should be reported.
