Binance CSV → tax report Beta
Binance's export lets you download transaction, trade and other history as CSV for chosen date ranges. Those files are raw history: a tax report needs cost basis matched to each sale. TaxForms does not read Binance CSVs today, so this page explains the realistic options, including where TaxForms does help.
- Read in your browser: the file is never uploaded
- Each Form 8949 box is checked against the totals printed on the form
- Free preview and box totals check, no sign-up
Files are read in this browser tab and never uploaded.
Getting the CSV
- Binance's help centre describes generating transaction history exports from the orders or wallet history pages, with a limit on how long a date range each export can cover. Large accounts may need several exports.
- Keep the files unedited. Crypto tax software imports them by recognising Binance's own column layout.
- Binance.US is a separate company with its own tax documents. If it sent you a Form 1099-DA PDF, TaxForms reads that PDF.
Turning it into a tax report
- Option 1: import the Binance CSVs (or an API connection) into crypto tax software such as Koinly, which matches sales to purchases and produces a gain/loss report.
- Option 2: if you have a gain/loss report from that software or a Form 1099-DA PDF, use TaxForms to check it and convert it into a Form 8949 CSV and a TurboTax gain/loss CSV.
- If you also used Coinbase or Kraken, TaxForms converts those exports into Koinly and TurboTax universal CSVs, so all your exchanges end up in one tool.
Example: a raw history row versus what a tax report needs
| Date (UTC) | Operation | Coin | Change | Cost basis? | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Raw export | 2025-03-04 10:12 | Transaction Sold | ETH | -0.75 | not in file |
| Raw export | 2025-03-04 10:12 | Transaction Revenue | USDT | +1,612.30 | not in file |
| Tax report | Sold 03/04/2025 | ETH 0.75 | proceeds 1,612.30 | needs purchase history |
The cost basis has to come from when you bought the ETH, possibly on another exchange. Figures and column names are illustrative.
FAQ
Is my Binance file uploaded?
No. It is opened inside your browser tab and the output files are built there. Nothing about your account or trades is sent to us.
Does TaxForms read Binance CSVs?
Not today. It reads 1099-B and 1099-DA PDFs, Coinbase CSVs and Kraken ledgers. We say so up front rather than give you a wrong result.
Why isn't the raw CSV enough for Form 8949?
Form 8949 needs the cost basis for every sale, which means matching it to earlier purchases. That is tax-calculation software's job.
What does the free version include?
Every row in the preview and the full box totals check, free. Downloads include the first 10 rows of each file. A TaxForms pass ($12 once, valid until October 15, 2027) or CleanStatement Pro unlocks every row.
Is this tax advice?
TaxForms is a file-conversion and arithmetic-check tool. It is not tax advice, doesn't calculate cost basis, and doesn't prepare or file your return. Check every figure against your original forms, and ask a tax professional if you're unsure how something should be reported.
